The tilapia harvest is intended for both consumption and commercialization, as a result of a joint project between the community, the Authority of Aquatic Resources of Panama (Arap), and Cobre Panamá company.
In the district of La Pintada in Coclé, more than 15 families participated in the first partial tilapia harvest organized by the Sustainable Agricultural Community Committee of Cascajal.
This harvest, a result of a joint project between the community, the Authority of Aquatic Resources of Panama (Arap), and Cobre Panamá company, aims to supply both local consumption and the commercial market with tilapia.
In this first partial harvest, approximately 300 pounds of tilapia were obtained, with an average weight of 1.5 pounds each.
This tilapia harvest will not only provide these families with a source of high-quality protein but also offer them an opportunity to generate income.
Additionally, the families have a grinding machine that allows them to transform the fish into value-added products such as nuggets and hamburgers.
