The Mining Chamber of Panama (Camipa) shows a favorable perspective at the beginning of negotiations for the new contract with Minera Panama

According to the guild, the negotiations are giving due recognition to the importance and relevance of the mining sector in Panama’s sustainable development and economic recovery.

The Mining Chamber of Panama (Camipa) expressed its positive opinion about the start of negotiations for a new contract between the Panamanian government and Minera Panama, S.A. According to the chamber, this process acknowledges the significance and relevance of the mining sector in the country’s sustainable development and economic recovery, putting an end to a period of uncertainty caused by the Supreme Court’s ruling.

In a statement, Camipa reiterated its position that the outcome of the negotiations should be beneficial to all parties involved: the company, the government, and Panamanian citizens. The guild considers it crucial to maximize the benefits derived from the mining sector and send a clear message of confidence to investors, demonstrating that Panama respects the legal security of investments and has properly managed the renegotiation process.

Camipa emphasized the significant relevance of this negotiation in Panama to convey an unequivocal message of fair treatment towards foreign investment. The goal is to attract capital that drives not only the growth of the mining sector but also all economic sectors in the country. At a time when economic recovery depends on generating quality jobs and opportunities, these investments play a fundamental role.

The meetings are taking place as a result of the announcement made by President Laurentino Cortizo last Tuesday about the start of conversations with Minera Panama. Two months ago, the government formed a negotiating team composed of the Minister of Commerce and Industries, Ramón Martínez, who will coordinate the process; the Minister of Economy and Finance, Héctor Alexander; the Minister of Environment, Milciades Concepción; and the Minister of Labor and Labor Development, Doris Zapata, among others.
