The apparent unity and mutual support between the workforce and the Fourth Transformation were evident at the XV Ordinary National Congress of CATEM. Claudia Sheinbaum, accompanied by Governor Mara Lezama Espinos and other representatives from Morena, garnered support from the union.
Sheinbaum, serving as the national coordinator for the Defense of the Fourth Transformation, underscored the interconnectedness of the well-being of Mexico’s workers, business leaders, and the overall prosperity of the nation. She expressed satisfaction in officially solidifying a significant alliance with the Autonomous Confederation of Workers and Employees of Mexico (CATEM).
In her speech, Sheinbaum highlighted the current positive state of the country and emphasized the importance of avoiding a return to past practices. Emphasizing the ongoing efforts to expand labor rights in the nation, she stressed the shared objective of preventing a return to a past characterized by corruption and privileges.
Following the inauguration of the first Labor Committees for the Defense of the Fourth Transformation within CATEM, Claudia Sheinbaum outlined the goal of ensuring workers’ access to a dignified life through collaboration with entrepreneurs. She pointed to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s approach of prioritizing the principle of “for the good of all, first the poor,” asserting that Mexico’s growth hinges on this commitment.
Sheinbaum pledged to continue defending workers’ salaries and benefits, reiterating the commitment to walk together for the well-being of the workers and the country. Pedro Haces Barba, Senator of the Republic and Secretary General of CATEM, highlighted accomplishments resulting from collaboration between representatives of the working class and the 4T government. These achievements include an increased minimum wage, additional vacation days, and the elimination of subcontracting, among others.
The XV National Congress of CATEM, also attended by Mario Delgado, national president of Morena, saw the participation of governors Mara Lezama (Quintana Roo), Marina del Pilar Ávila (Baja California), Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla (Michoacán), Sergio Salomón (Puebla), and Miguel Navarro (Nayarit).
