The Cincinnati Bengals have had a complicated season.

Joe Burrow’s calf injury early in the campaign proved just how much they depended on him, and they needed him at his best if they wanted to have a slim shot to make the playoffs.

Then, just when he was back to full strength and playing like the top-five quarterback he is, he suffered a wrist injury that put an end to his campaign.

Notably, being out for the remainder of the season hasn’t stopped him from staying close to the team.

According to HC Zac Taylor, the former No. 1 pick is back in the building and doing some work, although — obviously — he cannot play or practice in full (via Mike Petraglia).

Taylor added that it’s been great to have their star quarterback back with the team, even though they don’t have a lot of incentives to play at the highest level right now.

The Bengals are less than likely to make the playoffs, and in reality, judging by their current salary cap status, they’d be better off just losing out and securing a high pick in the upcoming edition of the NFL Draft.

They have a young team and will be back in the mix many more times in the future, at least for as long as Burrow is there, so there’s no need to try and compete now and hurt their chances of getting another budding star who fits their timeline and could help them right away in the following campaign.
