The New Orleans Saints entered Thursday Night Football with much on the line.

A win would have significantly helped their playoff chances, allowing them to make headway in the divisional race.

This was an untimely loss that seemed to sting especially hard for this team.

Saints head coach Dennis Allen spoke about the team’s performance in a postgame press conference shared via reporter Matthew Paras.

In this conversation, Allen seemed frustrated with the team’s performance.

He said, “We came into the game wanting to be aggressive. Field goals weren’t the way to win the game.”

The Saints didn’t help their chances by getting down early in the first half.

They were down 17-7 at halftime and quickly expanded that deficit in the third quarter, as the Rams’ lead extended to 20 points.

While the Saints clawed their way back at the end of the game, with a final score of 30-22, they never seemed to be in control.

The Rams dominated them from the jump, seemingly ruining Allen’s plan of being aggressive from the jump.

The Saints will learn a lot from this game after watching the tape and seeing what went wrong with their gameplan.

While they might have wanted to be aggressive, it was clear from the get-go that the Rams wanted it more.

Plus, Derek Carr threw an untimely interception near the end of the first half, which led to a last-second field goal for the Rams.

Mitigating mistakes is imperative on a football field, and this one could have catalyzed the Rams’ continued scoring barrage.
