The 2023 NFL season has officially come to an end for the New York Giants, with the storied franchise finishing the regular season with a disappointing record of 6-11 and an uncertain future ahead.
As if the Giants didn’t have enough things to address headed into the NFL offseason, New York will now have to find a replacement for defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale, who suddenly decided to resign on Monday.
Martindale calling it quits is just another indication of how costly this season was for the Giants, with the team left to find a new defensive coordinator while Martindale potentially goes on to interview for a head coaching job in the NFL.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Martindale will be a hot commodity on the open market and won’t be unemployed for long, as he’ll almost certainly have a lot of interest around the league.
Don "Wink" Martindale has resigned, to be more specific. He'll be coveted and won't be out of work for long. Expect Drew and Kevin Wilkins, two top assistants, to join him. https://t.co/3Rn755Nyiy

With the NFL expected to have several openings around the league at head coach, Martindale will likely get his opportunity to lead a franchise next season and potentially for the foreseeable future.
It’ll be interesting to see where Martindale will land and who the Giants bring in to be his successor after a forgettable season the team will want to put behind them as quickly as possible.
Even if Martindale has to settle for being a defensive coordinator somewhere else, he’ll still receive a lot of interest and might be able to help turn some teams around on the defensive side of the football in 2024.
