The Indianapolis Colts’ season came to an early end, but football might be the last thing on their minds right now.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the team just released a statement revealing that team owner Jim Irsay is being treated for a severe respiratory illness.
“We’ll have no additional information at this time and we ask that you respect the privacy of Jim and his family as he recovers,” the statement said.

The team added that he’s receiving excellent care, urging people to respect his privacy at this moment and offering no further update.
The 64-year-old has owned the team since 1997.
He’s been quite open about his past in an attempt to inspire people to get better, starting the Kicking the Stigma initiative to raise awareness about alcohol and drug addiction.
Irsay inherited the team from his father, Robert, who was responsible for moving the franchise from Baltimore way back in 1984.
Under his tutelage, the team has made it to a couple of Super Bowls, winning the ultimate prize back in 2007.
It was an up-and-down season for the team, but first-year coach Shane Steichen left some good feelings.
The team went from a 4-12-1 campaign to being just a score away from winning the AFC South Divison and making it to the playoffs, and that’s despite not having promising rookie Anthony Richardson behind center for most of the season.
Hopefully, this will be just a scare and Irsay will be back at Lucas Oil Stadium rooting for his team next year.
