The last few years have been pretty rough for three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert, as he’s dealt with a lot of criticism for things he’s done, as well as being part of what was once thought to be one of the worst trades in NBA history.

After dealing with all the backlash of the COVID-19 fiasco, trade to the Minnesota Timberwolves, and fight with teammate Kyle Anderson last year, Gobert has seemingly started to turn things around while making the brass of his current franchise look smart for bringing him in.

The Timberwolves are currently one of the best teams in the NBA, with Gobert and company dominating the competition on a nightly basis while sitting atop the Western Conference standings with an impressive record of 21-6, which is tied with the Boston Celtics for the best record in the league.

With the Timberwolves firing on all cylinders and Gobert being the favorite to win another Defensive Player of the Year award, team president Tim Connelly couldn’t help but sing the praises of the veteran center while on SiriusXM NBA Radio with Justin Termine and Eddie Johnson.

“Nobody works harder, no one puts more time in the gym than Rudy [Gobert].”

As Connelly points out, Gobert’s effort on the defensive end has become contagious for the Timberwolves, which has resulted in Minnesota being one of the best, if not the best, defensive team in the league right now.

With the Timberwolves being 27 games into the 2023-24 NBA season, it seems as though this team is for real, but it will be interesting to see if this team can continue to play at a high level moving forward and whether this squad is a legitimate title contender in the West.
