On June 7, 2024, a ceremony took place in the province of Huíla, particularly in the city of Lubango, to present the certificate for the de-mined area along the 400 KV electricity transmission line that connects Huambo to Lubango.
This notable event was attended by João Baptista Borges, the Minister of Energy and Water, and João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade, the Minister of National Defense, Former Combatants, and Veterans of the Homeland. Also present were Arlindo Carlos, the Secretary of State for Energy, the Vice-Governors of Huíla and Huambo, a representative from the African Development Bank for Angola and São Tomé, various officials from both ministries, and other invited guests.
Following the certificate handover, Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Energy and Water for their commitment, which enabled this achievement. He also commented on the overall importance of the occasion.
In response, Minister João Baptista Borges thanked Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade for his contributions that led to the successful execution of the ceremony. He emphasized the vital role of de-mining in advancing the project.
He further stated that the primary aim is to enhance energy capacity to address the needs of the region. He praised the de-mining initiatives, acknowledging their significance for the energy sector and their essential contribution to the successful realization of various electrification projects in the country.
João Baptista Borges also noted that this project linking Huambo and Lubango will create job opportunities for many young individuals, which he considers a key factor.
Additionally, a symbolic act of presenting a vehicle to the on-site de-mining team was conducted.
It’s worth highlighting that the construction of the 400 kV electricity transmission line between Huambo and Lubango will be divided into two segments, spanning a total distance of 343 km.
