Chanel and Tribeca Join Forces with A-Listers for 10th Annual Through Her Lens Program in New York City

New York City was buzzing with excitement as fashion powerhouse Chanel and renowned film festival Tribeca joined forces for the 10th annual Through Her Lens program. The event, which celebrates and supports emerging female filmmakers, brought together some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry for a weekend of inspiration and empowerment.

The Through Her Lens program, created by Chanel and Tribeca in 2015, aims to provide a platform for female filmmakers to showcase their talent and receive mentorship from industry professionals. Over the past 10 years, the program has supported over 100 female filmmakers and helped bring their stories to the big screen.

This year’s program kicked off with a star-studded luncheon at the iconic Balthazar restaurant in Soho. A-listers such as Julianne Moore, Katie Holmes, and Rachel Weisz were in attendance, showing their support for the program and its mission to promote gender equality in the film industry.

The luncheon was followed by a series of workshops and panels led by industry experts, including Academy Award-winning director Kathryn Bigelow and actress and producer Rashida Jones. These sessions provided valuable insights and advice for the 10 selected female filmmakers who were chosen to participate in the program.

One of the highlights of the weekend was the pitch session, where the filmmakers had the opportunity to present their projects to a panel of judges, including actress and producer Elizabeth Banks and Tribeca Film Festival co-founder Jane Rosenthal. The judges were impressed by the diverse range of stories and the passion of the filmmakers, making it a tough decision to choose the winner.

In the end, the top prize went to filmmaker Nia DaCosta for her project “Little Woods”. DaCosta, who was mentored by director and producer Effie T. Brown, received a grant of $100,000 to help bring her film to life. The runner-up, filmmaker Ani Simon-Kennedy, was awarded a grant of $75,000 for her project “The Short History of the Long Road”.

The weekend concluded with a glamorous dinner and awards ceremony at the Tribeca Grill. The event was attended by industry insiders, celebrities, and the 10 selected filmmakers, who were all dressed to impress in their Chanel ensembles. The winners of the pitch session were announced, and the evening was filled with celebration and excitement for the future of these talented female filmmakers.

The Through Her Lens program has not only provided a platform for female filmmakers but has also created a community of support and mentorship. Many of the past participants have gone on to achieve great success in the industry, and this year’s group is sure to follow in their footsteps.

Chanel and Tribeca’s commitment to promoting gender equality in the film industry is commendable and has made a significant impact in the lives of these talented women. Through Her Lens has not only given them the opportunity to showcase their work but has also empowered them to continue breaking barriers and telling their stories.

As actress and producer Elizabeth Banks stated, “We need more women behind the camera, and programs like Through Her Lens are crucial in making that happen.” With the continued support of Chanel and Tribeca, we can hope to see more diverse and inclusive stories being told on the big screen.

The 10th annual Through Her Lens program was a resounding success, and we can’t wait to see the projects that will come to fruition as a result. Congratulations to all the participants, and here’s to many more years of celebrating and supporting female filmmakers.
