“We’re not a free hit.”
These words have been repeated countless times by individuals and groups who have been marginalized, discriminated against, or simply treated unfairly. And yet, despite the repeated pleas for respect and equality, the message seems to fall on deaf ears. It’s as if some people believe that these individuals and groups are somehow less deserving of basic human rights and dignity.
But let me make one thing clear – we are not a free hit. We are not punching bags for others to use and abuse whenever they feel like it. We are human beings, with our own thoughts, feelings, and experiences. And we deserve to be treated as such.
It’s easy to dismiss the struggles of others when we don’t understand or relate to them. But that doesn’t make them any less valid. Just because we may not have experienced discrimination or prejudice ourselves, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. And just because we may not have faced the same challenges as others, doesn’t mean their struggles are any less real.
The reality is, discrimination and inequality still exist in our society. It may not be as overt as it once was, but it’s still there – lurking in the shadows, manifesting in subtle ways, and affecting the lives of countless individuals. And it’s time for us to acknowledge this and take action.
We cannot continue to turn a blind eye to the injustices faced by our fellow human beings. We cannot continue to brush off their experiences and dismiss their cries for equality. We cannot continue to perpetuate a system that favors some while oppressing others.
It’s time for us to stand up and speak out against discrimination and inequality. It’s time for us to use our voices and our privilege to amplify the voices of those who have been silenced for far too long. It’s time for us to educate ourselves and challenge our own biases. It’s time for us to be allies and advocates for those who have been marginalized.
But most importantly, it’s time for us to recognize that we are all in this together. We are not separate entities, but interconnected beings sharing this world. And when one of us is treated unfairly, it affects us all. We cannot truly thrive as a society until we all have equal opportunities and equal rights.
So the next time you hear someone say “We’re not a free hit,” don’t dismiss it or brush it off. Listen to their words and understand the pain and frustration behind them. And then ask yourself, what can I do to help? How can I be a part of the solution?
Because the truth is, we are all responsible for creating a more just and equal society. And it starts with acknowledging that we are not a free hit. We are human beings, deserving of respect, dignity, and equality. Let’s work together to make that a reality for all.
