With the Atlanta Hawks currently sitting in 10th place in the Eastern Conference and seemingly being a nonthreat to the beat teams in the conference right now, the team appears to be open for business with the NBA trade deadline about a month away.

Even though superstar guard Trae Young would fetch the team a hefty trade haul in return, the Hawks reportedly view him as untouchable in trade talks along with up-and-comer Jalen Johnson, which doesn’t bode well for guard Dejounte Murray.

When the Hawks brought in Murray in a trade with the San Antonio Spurs in 2022, Atlanta was thought to have created one of the more intimidating and talented backcourts in the league, with Young and Murray being a potential dynamic duo.

Unfortunately, less than two years later, the trade has been a bust, with the Hawks seemingly ready to move on from the 27-year-old guard.

According to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, the Los Angeles Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers have shown interest in trading for Murray before the deadline via Hoop Central.

During his only All-Star season with the Spurs, Murray filled up the stat sheet on a nightly basis, averaging 21.1 points, 9.2 assists, and 8.3 rebounds while 46.2% from the floor and 32.7% from beyond the arc.

Even though Murray’s three-point shooting has improved, he is currently shooting 38.3% from deep; the assists are way down (5.2) and rebounds per game (4.6).

Simply put, Murray hasn’t turned into the kind of player everyone thought he would be after his breakout season during the 2021-22 campaign, making him expendable and potentially on his way to the third team of his NBA career.
