The Atlanta Falcons have some exciting pieces and have been a hard-fighting team more often than not, but that hasn’t always translated into winning football.
And while their quarterback situation has been far from ideal, coaching has also had plenty to do with their inconsistency.
That’s why it’s not much of a surprise to see that NFL insider Mike Garafolo reported that HC Arthur Smith is currently ‘on the shakiest of grounds,’ and that his season-finale vs. the New Orleans Saints could make or break his destiny in charge of the organization.
Garafolo talked to Steve Wyche and James Palmer of the NFL Network about the NFC South coaching picture, and while the Falcons were reportedly inching towards keeping Smith for at least another season, this late-campaign debacle may have changed their plans.
“I believe Arthur Smith is on the shakiest of grounds,” Garafolo said.
On the latest episode of #TheNFLReport @mikegarafolo gave @wyche89 and I some insight into the job security of the head coaches in the NFC South. "I believe Arthur Smith is on the shakiest of grounds."

Truth be told, the Falcons were never expected to be a contender, and some might even state that they exceeded expectations with that record this season.
Then again, we’re talking about the weakest division in the league by a landslide, and given the young studs they have and how misused they’ve been at times, this is far from a surprise.
Even so, the Falcons shouldn’t have much trouble finding a suitable replacement for Smith.
Coaching the likes of Bijan Robinson, Drake London, and Kyle Pitts could be an exciting prospect, and if the Falcons are, indeed, in the market for Justin Fields, they could have one of the best and most entertaining offenses in the league by a big margin.
