Chanel, the iconic fashion house, and Tribeca, the renowned film festival, have joined forces once again to celebrate women in the film industry. The 10th annual Through Her Lens program, held in New York City, brought together A-listers, filmmakers, and industry professionals to support and empower emerging female talent.
The program, created by Chanel and Tribeca in 2015, aims to provide opportunities for female filmmakers and give them the resources they need to succeed in a male-dominated industry. The two-day event included workshops, panel discussions, and one-on-one mentorship sessions, all led by top industry professionals.
The star-studded event kicked off with a welcome dinner at Balthazar in SoHo, where guests were treated to a delicious meal while mingling with fellow filmmakers and mentors. The following day, the program began with a breakfast at the Tribeca Film Festival Hub, where the 10 selected filmmakers were announced.
These talented women, chosen from a pool of over 600 applicants, will receive grants of $100,000 each to produce their own short films. In addition to the financial support, they will also have the opportunity to work with industry professionals and receive guidance from renowned female mentors such as Dakota Fanning, Rashida Jones, and Rachel Weisz.
The first day of the program also included workshops on various aspects of filmmaking, from writing and directing to producing and post-production. The filmmakers had the chance to learn from experts in their respective fields, including award-winning director and producer, Catherine Hardwicke, and screenwriter and director, Patricia Rozema.
The highlight of the event was the panel discussion, “Through Her Lens: The Power of Storytelling,” moderated by Tribeca co-founder Jane Rosenthal. This was followed by a closing luncheon at Locanda Verde, where the filmmakers had the chance to network and share their experiences with each other.
