Dwight Howard Wants 5-Time Champion As His First Podcast Guest
In the professional sports world, podcasts have emerged as some of the most popular platforms. In fact, most athletes competing in major sports leagues in the United States have their own podcasts. Through this medium, they can share their perspectives on different topics without any sound bites, thereby creating a unique brand for themselves.
Recently, Dwight Howard, the star center for the Los Angeles Lakers and an eight-time NBA All-Star, announced his plans to join this trend and launch a podcast in 2021. But the former Houston Rocket isn’t just content to launch any old podcast. He wants to make a big splash with his first podcast guest to kick off the series.
In a recent interview, Howard revealed that he wants five-time NBA champion Kobe Bryant to be his first podcast guest when the show kicks off early next year.
“My first guest is going to be Kobe, God willing,” Howard told NBA TV during an appearance on April 7. “I definitely want to be able to get Kobe. I believe that would be a great start to the podcast.
When asked why he chose Bryant, Howard explained that the former Lakers star is someone he has looked up to since he was a kid.
“He is a mentor for me,” Howard noted. “He’s somebody that has always been in my corner; he’s somebody that has inspired a lot of people, and the way he impacted a lot of people is unbelievable. So to be able to have him as my first guest would be an honor.”
While Howard may have a tall order in getting the five-time NBA champion on as his first guest, he will certainly have plenty of other options if Bryant is unavailable. As one of the most popular players in the NBA today, Howard knows that he can bring in some of the biggest stars from the past and present.
In addition to an NBA star like Bryant, Howard could look to bring in some of his former teammates like Chris Paul and James Harden, or even some celebrity guests like LeBron James or Dwyane Wade.
Whatever the podcast’s lineup looks like, one thing is certain: Howard’s show will be one of the most talked-about podcasts in basketball. With his charisma and enthusiasm for the game, Howard is sure to make his show one of the most popular in the sport.
By launching a podcast, Howard is taking a chance to open up to fans and share his passions and insights. It’s an opportunity to build an even bigger brand for himself and become an even more important voice in the world of basketball. And what better way to kick off the show than to have Kobe Bryant, one of the best and most influential players ever, as his first guest. Only time will tell if Howard lands Bryant, but if he does, it will surely be a highlight of the podcast.
