A glistening night to celebrate LGBTQ+ trailblazers against ‘rise of far right’

Manchester legend DJ Paulette has once again made headlines, this time for taking home an award for her decades of contributions to LGBTQ+ nightlife. The award was presented at the annual Manchester Pride Awards, where Paulette was recognized for her unwavering support and dedication to the community.

Paulette, who has been a prominent figure in the Manchester music scene since the 1980s, has always been a fierce advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and representation. Her passion for music and her unwavering support for the community has made her a beloved figure in the city and beyond.

Receiving the award, Paulette expressed her gratitude and shared her journey of being a part of the LGBTQ+ community. She also highlighted the importance of creating safe and inclusive spaces for the community, especially in the nightlife scene.

“I am beyond grateful to receive this award. It has been an incredible journey being a part of the LGBTQ+ community and I am proud to have been able to contribute to the vibrant nightlife scene in Manchester. It is crucial to have safe and inclusive spaces for the community to come together and celebrate,” said Paulette.

Her contributions to the community have not gone unnoticed, with many praising her for her dedication and impact. Manchester Pride CEO, Mark Fletcher, also commended Paulette for her work and the positive influence she has had on the community.

“DJ Paulette is a true legend in Manchester and beyond. Her passion for music and her unwavering support for the LGBTQ+ community has made her an icon in the nightlife scene. We are honored to present her with this award and recognize her decades of contributions,” said Fletcher.

But Paulette was not the only one to take home an award at the ceremony. Popular soap opera Coronation Street also received recognition for their powerful and harrowing portrayal of the gay domestic abuse storyline involving characters Todd and Theo.

The storyline, which aired earlier this year, shed light on the often overlooked issue of domestic abuse within same-sex relationships. The show’s writers and actors were praised for their sensitive and realistic portrayal of the issue, which sparked important conversations and raised awareness.

Accepting the award on behalf of the show, producer Iain MacLeod expressed his gratitude and emphasized the importance of using television as a platform to address important issues.

“We are honored to receive this award for our portrayal of the Todd and Theo storyline. It was a challenging but important story to tell and we are grateful for the recognition. Television has the power to spark important conversations and we are proud to have shed light on this important issue,” said MacLeod.

The Manchester Pride Awards celebrate and recognize individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the LGBTQ+ community. This year’s ceremony was a testament to the incredible work being done to promote equality and inclusivity.

As we continue to strive for a more inclusive society, it is important to recognize and celebrate those who have paved the way and continue to make a difference. DJ Paulette and Coronation Street are shining examples of the positive impact that can be made when we come together and support each other. Let us continue to celebrate and uplift the LGBTQ+ community and create a more inclusive world for all.
