The Dallas Cowboys are looking hot to start the 2023 NFL season, and many believe they can do something special in the coming months.

They shut out the New York Giants, a playoff-caliber team, 40-0 in Week 1, and on Sunday they humiliated the New York Jets, 30-10.

Dallas currently ranks first in both points scored and allowed, and it has former Green Bay Packers wide receiver James Jones saying that “America’s Team” is “on the verge of winning a Super Bowl,” via “Speak” on FS1.

In both of the last two seasons, the Cowboys won 12 regular-season games, but they lost early in the playoffs to their arch-rivals, the San Francisco 49ers.

This year, they have a stronger roster, starting with the addition of veteran star cornerback Stephon Gilmore, who has given them a fearsome secondary.

On offense, they signed wide receiver Brandin Cooks to take some pressure off CeeDee Lamb, although he didn’t play in Week 2 due to a knee injury.

Although Jones said the only thing holding the Cowboys back is injury, there are still some potential pitfalls for them moving forward.

For one, the 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles are looking good as well, and both teams are fully capable of knocking off Dallas come playoff time.

In particular, the Niners’ defense is also looking outstanding, and they have the NFL’s leading rusher in star running back Christian McCaffrey.

While Dallas ranks first in passing yards and touchdowns allowed, they’re ninth in rushing yards given up.

Then there is the matter of quarterback Dak Prescott, who, as Jones pointed out, is playing well right now, but has a history of underperforming in the playoffs.

Still, one should count on Dallas at least having a say in how the NFC is ultimately won.
